Grand Erie Public Health offers school-based immunization clinics in elementary schools each fall and spring to Grade 7 students. The publicly funded vaccines offered in the school-based clinics are Meningococcal (Men-C-ACYW), Hepatitis B, and Human Papillomavirus. Vaccines are only administered with the consent of a legal parent or guardian.
Vaccination greatly reduces the risk of your child getting sick with these diseases.
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine can prevent cervical, head, and neck cancers. The Hepatitis B vaccine prevents severe, possibly fatal long-term liver diseases, including cancer. The meningococcal (Men-C-ACYW) vaccine is different from the meningococcal (Men-C-C) vaccine children routinely receive at 12 months old, and is required by law for all Grade 7 children and older attending school, unless otherwise exempted. The meningococcal (Men-C-ACYW) vaccine protects against four deadly types (A, C, Y, W) of bacteria, preventing severe infections like meningitis and sepsis that can cause brain damage, limb loss, deafness or death.
These vaccines are safe, effective, and recommended as part of Ontario’s Routine Immunization Schedule.

Grand Erie Public Health will attend elementary schools this fall to offer immunization clinics to Grade 7 students for publicly funded hepatitis B, human papillomavirus (HPV), and meningococcal (Men‑C‑ACYW) vaccines. The meningococcal vaccine requires only one dose, while hepatitis B and HPV require two doses. We will return to schools in the spring to provide the second doses.

Students who missed one or more doses of their Grade 7 vaccines (Meningococcal Men-C-ACYW, Hepatitis B and Human Papillomavirus) may still be able to receive these vaccines publicly funded. Please review the eligibility chart below. Follow up with your family doctor or contact us to book a vaccine appointment.

These vaccines are typically provided through school-based clinics; however, if you prefer your child to be vaccinated with their health care provider, please contact your child’s health care provider as these vaccines can be special ordered from the local public health unit and administered at the health care provider’s office.
