Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) delivers environmental programs and services aimed at protecting public health and preventing illness in the community.
The Environmental Health team supports public health by monitoring and responding to environmental hazards. This includes issuing alerts and guidance during extreme weather events and educating the public on potential health risks such as radon, nitrates, and mould in the home or environment. GEPH also inspects facilities with public access that serve vulnerable populations, including recreational camps, boarding or lodging homes, and schools.
Food safety is another key focus. We provide guidance on how to handle, prepare, and store food safely at home and investigate foodborne illnesses that occur in public dining establishments.
The team also helps protect community health through programs related to safe drinking water and recreational water, including monitoring and responding to potential risks in public water systems, pools and other recreational water facilities.
We’re here to help residents stay informed and take proactive steps to protect their health and the health of their families.
